The location of Mövenpick Resort Petra is, without question, its biggest advantage. It is incredibly convenient — located barely 130 metres from the entrance/exit of the Petra Visitor Centre, which is ideal after a long day of walking. Unfortunately, that was the only real positive of our stay. We had booked a Superior Room, but the room felt small and cramped, especially considering the price we paid. For a hotel positioned at this level and price point, we expected a more comfortable and better-designed space. The food was another major letdown. Both breakfast and the buffet dinner we tried were average at best and definitely not worth the price. A recurring issue was that most of the food was cold — breads, meats, and hot dishes lacked warmth and flavor. The dishes were bland, and some of the desserts tasted old and slightly off. Overall, the quality simply did not match what one would expect from Mövenpick. Prices across the hotel were extremely high, even for basic items like a sandwich and coffee. What made this more disappointing is that we stayed in other premium destinations in Jordan — including the Dead Sea and Wadi Rum — where prices were noticeably more reasonable and the quality was far superior. Given how much we paid for the stay, we genuinely expected much more from Mövenpick. While the location is unbeatable for visiting Petra, the room comfort, food quality, and overall value for money fell short. Sadly, the experience was disappointing and did not live up to the brand’s reputation.
The hotel was conveniently located within walking distance of the entrance to the famous Treasury. The hotel was clean and all the staff were very attentive. Especially the housekeeper supervisor Hamsa and our room attendant, Yaha. We requested several special items and they were delivered immediately. I would highly recommend staying at the Movenpick Petra.
The hotel is steps from the Petra Visitor Center entrance. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. The food was delicious. The bar is friendly and cozy. Ismail, the floor manager, made sure all of our needs were met. His cleaning crew, in particular, Abdullah and Firas, kept everything neat and tidy. A wonderful hotel that is within walking distance to shopping and restaurants.
Mövenpick Resort Petra is hands-down one of the smartest luxury stays you can choose in Jordan—and especially in Petra. The location alone is unbeatable: directly across from the Petra entrance. You are literally among the first people inside the park each morning, without sacrificing an ounce of comfort or luxury. After a 10-mile Petra day, being able to walk three minutes back to the hotel, straight into a hot rain shower, plush linens, and a calm, elegant space is a luxury experience in itself. They treat their members exceptionally well. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with a special in-room treat acknowledging our membership—thoughtful, warm, and personal. That set the tone for a stay defined by top-tier customer service. The rooms, décor, and amenities are all top shelf—beautifully curated with majestic Levantine architectural details etched throughout the property. It feels authentic, elevated, and intentional—not generic resort luxury. And the breakfast—easily the best buffet breakfast we had in Jordan. It tasted personally curated, not mass-produced or “big resort blah.” The egg station deserves special mention: they actually cook eggs the way you ask, not overcooked and rushed like at so many five-star properties. (Looking at you, Kempinski Ishtar Dead Sea—where we paid double the price and got nowhere near the Mövenpick experience.) The Mediterranean restaurant, Al Iwan, was phenomenal—one of our best meals in Jordan, full stop. Flavorful, thoughtful, and beautifully executed. Comfort matters after Petra, and Mövenpick delivers: plush beds, high-quality linens, and immaculate rooms. Another huge win for us is self-parking. We do not do valet—ever. We don’t like strangers driving our car, adjusting settings, or introducing unnecessary risk. Having self-parking as an option was appreciated and respected. Everything about this hotel is designed with the traveler in mind: proximity, comfort, recovery, and genuine hospitality. We will absolutely be back to Jordan, and we’ll continue to stay loyal to our membership. Mövenpick Petra nailed it. Thoughtful luxury, unbeatable location, and service that understands what discerning travelers actually care about.
I was really disappointed in this hotel mostly because it was listed as a 5 star- had it been listed as a 3 star then I wouldn't have had such high expectations and been dashed. Although the lobby courtyard is very pretty, the actual floors and rooms are very bare bones. The room looked more like a Hampton Inn in the USA (not even close to a real 5 star), except the Hampton Inn is much cleaner. The location is very convenient for Petra so that is the main positive to staying here- the entrance is literally right across from the entrance to Petra. The gym is a decent size in the basement but the machines are very dated- using the treadmill was not a fun experience. The pool was unexpectedly not available when we came due to renovations. The restaurant had a "vegan" menu page which we were so excited about but then it had eggs and chicken listed for some of the dishes which makes no sense (the definition of vegan is no animal products including meats or eggs but when we asked they didn't seem to understand)-- this is very misleading and potentially dangerous for people with allergies. The buffet had a great selection of foods and the chef/staff in the buffet restaurant were very kind, but as above the ambience was not "5 star", it felt more like a dining hall. The spa had a great selection of options, staff and service were excellent, and good value for the services- however, as above the spa environment was also bare bones and was not like a 5 star facility. Summary: Superb location and staff were great, but they need actual vegan menus and a MAJOR update to the facilities (rooms/gym/spa/buffet restaurant) to make it truly a 5 star experience.
