Mövenpick Resort Waverly Phu Quoc

We attended the New Year’s Eve party at Mövenpick Waverly with high expectations, given the hotel’s five-star positioning. The evening started well, and up until around 11:30pm, the atmosphere was enjoyable and well managed. Unfortunately, from about 11:30pm onwards, the experience deteriorated significantly. A large number of hotel staff entered the guest party area and began behaving as attendees rather than staff. They were extremely loud, disruptive, and disorganised, which completely changed the atmosphere. Staff members were openly drinking alcohol, others were playing football, and several were clearly intoxicated, to the point where some were sitting on the floor. The noise level became overwhelming and felt completely out of place for a five-star hotel environment—it honestly felt more like a budget hotel than a luxury property. Adding to this, staff who were partying left dirty plates and glasses on guest tables, including ours. Because so many staff members appeared to be busy partying, there was no one available to clear tables or manage the space properly. This created a very uncomfortable and messy dining experience for paying guests. We ultimately left at around 12:45am because the event had become too chaotic and unpleasant to continue enjoying. We paid to attend this event as guests, and what we experienced was extremely disappointing and poorly managed. If the hotel wishes to allow staff to celebrate, this should be done separately, or in a short, controlled window (as many hotels do), without disrupting the guest experience. What occurred that night showed a serious lack of organisation and professionalism. Sadly, this was not the New Year’s Eve experience one would expect from a five-star hotel, and it left us very disappointed.

Poor service and extremely difficult to communicate with staff … issues with room (AC water leakage, bathroom toilet overflow) … problems at check-in as staff couldn’t locate my airport transfer booking, did not provide the “towel cards” - something I have never seen before … used to get towels at the swimming pool … I had to walk all the way back to reception to collect them (quite a long walk) … Food at Christmas dinner was mostly cold … didn’t see any provision for hot/heated food … staff were peddling their relatives’ cab/taxi services … and randomly asking for reviews on Google - that to for service at the Buffet Breakfast of all the things … not at all an experience expected at a luxury resort
