Sightseeing in Petra

The city of Petra, capital of the Nabataean Arabs, is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world. Located 240 km south of the capital Amman and 120 km north of the red sea town of Aqaba, Petra is undoubtedly Jordan's most valuable treasure and greatest tourist attraction- it is visited by tourists from all over the world. It is also considered one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

The Treasury - Al Khazna

Get a view from of the siq, which opens up onto Petra's most magnificent façade; the Treasury, or Al Khazna. It is almost 40 meters high and intricately decorated with Corinthian capitals, friezes, figures and more. The Treasury is crowned by a funerary urn, which according to local legend conceals a pharaoh's treasure. Although the original function is still a mystery, The Treasury was probably constructed in the 1st century BC; however, in reality the urn represented a memorial for royalty. The Treasury consists of two floors with a width of 25.30 meters and a height of 39.1 meters.

As Petra is located in a valley, you must travel to the outskirts of Wadi Musa to see the sunset. The best spots to see the sunset are located along the road (no. 35) from Wadi Musa to Taybeh, about a 5-10 minute drive from the centre of Wadi Musa. There's a small municipal park that has a great view of Petra – the city is right there at your feet.

Known as the Rose Red City due to the colour of the kingdom's rock carvings, Petra is Jordan's most visited attraction. The ancient Nabataean capital remained unknown to the western world until 1812 when a Swiss explorer discovered numerous spectacular sites in the area.

Dana Biosphere Reserve

This incredible ecosystem features more than 600 plant species, around 180 bird species and more than 40 different types of mammals including gazelles, foxes and wolves. Additionally, there are almost 100 archaeological sites based in the reserve.

Hiking and cross-country trekking

The Jordan Trail covers sections throughout the country, including a four-day hike from Dana to Petra and a five-day stretch from Petra to Wadi Rum. The hotel can also arrange excursions (for a fee) to the Dead Sea, Aqaba, the Red Sea and the 12th century Crusader castles at Shobak and Kerak.
