Since the 15th century the Römer in Frankfurt is the town hall of the metropolis and has become a symbol of the city as it is one of the most important highlights of Frankfurt.
On March 11, 1405 the Römer merchant family sold the building to the city council together with another building, the Goldener Schwan (Golden Swan), and it was converted for use as the city hall. The Haus Römer is actually one of the three located at the Römerberg (a plaza).
