the ferry ride was very fun
Delightful surprise that you take a private ferry from the dock to the hotel which is on an island. We had a comfortable room and enjoyed breakfast buffet in the morning. The gardens are wonderful to walk around including seeing the whimsical topiary and some deer. Wish we had brought bathing suits so we could have gone into the swimming pool. From our balcony we could see ancient tombs across from us which are lit at night. Friendly helpful staff.

Aswan's Finest Hotel
You arrive by a short boat ride to a 5-star resort. Wonderful and friendly staff and comfortable rooms. The view from every direction is breathtaking. We felt well-served and very safe. The ride to the main shore is no more than 5 minutes. On the grounds there were topiaries, a small animal zoo and the vegetable gardens where fresh food for visitors is grown

Movenpick Resort Aswan
I decided to give Movenpick Aswan a 3-star rating as my stay had both great and disappointing aspects. Given the price of $240 per night, which is close to the rates of higher-end hotels in Cairo like the Four Seasons (around $260), I feel my opinion matters, and I want to provide a balanced review. Good things: - Special thanks to Ezra, who not only took over another agent’s silent check-in but also went above and beyond to explain everything about the property and answer all my questions. Her professionalism truly made me feel welcome, and she is a fantastic representative of the hotel. - Mezze Restaurant: The best meal I had in Aswan was at Mezze Restaurant, where I tried a variety of traditional Egyptian dishes. The food was excellent, and the restaurant also offers an amazing view. A special thank you to Sana, the hostess, who made me feel incredibly warm and welcomed. - Elephantine Restaurant: The breakfast here is good, especially with the early start at 3 AM. This is great for tourists needing to leave early for flights or tours, such as to Abu Simbel. Yasser, the waiter, was very attentive and genuinely made sure everything was to my liking. I loved the food! - Room View: The view from my room was spectacular, and I didn’t want to leave the hotel because I felt so relaxed sitting on the balcony, enjoying the scenery. Negative things: - In-Room Dining: The in-room dining staff was rude and struggled with basic English. When I inquired about portion sizes, the order-taker did not understand, and when I tried to clarify, he raised his voice, making the situation uncomfortable. When I asked why he was shouting, he responded that he didn’t understand me. This was an unpleasant experience. - Hotel Retail: The person working at souvenir shop in the hotel was also rude. I tried to buy postcards and asked how I could send them to my country. He initially said I could give them to him after writing, but I saw on the TV in the room that I can send any postcards from concierge. When I took them to the concierge, I was directed back to him for stamps. He was angry that I didn’t trust him and treated me poorly. When I gave him the postcards, he demanded an additional 400 EGP for sending, making the total cost 600 EGP ($12), which is the most I’ve ever paid to send postcards anywhere. I’m still unsure whether he actually sent them. - Boat to/from the Hotel: The security at the port didn’t speak any English, and without a local SIM card to call the hotel, it was nearly impossible to figure out how to reach the other side, as there are many boats at the port. I ended up taking a boat that was likely for the staff, but I somehow made it across. It’s frustrating in a country like Egypt, where you can’t always tell if you’re expected to tip, especially when you’re confused about what’s going on. There were no markings or information on the boat indicating it was affiliated with Movenpick. Overall, Movenpick Aswan has some incredible aspects, but it also has areas that need improvement, particularly when it comes to service. With a price tag of $240 per night, I had higher expectations for the overall experience. While I enjoyed the food, views, and some of the staff, the negative experiences significantly impacted my stay.
