⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5) – An “Okay” Stay at Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam We recently stayed at the Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam as a family of five (two adults, two adult children, and one 7-year-old). Overall, the experience was okay — nothing terrible, but also nothing that would make us want to return. Positives: The reception and bar staff were genuinely welcoming, helpful, and friendly, which made a great first impression. The bathroom in our room was of good quality, and the shower was particularly generous — definitely one of the better ones we’ve had in a hotel. Negatives: The rooms are on the verge of feeling dated, and it’s surprising there are no USB or USB-C charging ports — a small but frustrating issue for international travellers. One of our rooms had a strong urine smell in the bathroom when we arrived, and we even found a previous guest’s slipper under the bed. On another occasion, it was clear the toilet had been used after cleaning, which was unpleasant. The location is also slightly inconvenient — not far from the city centre, but with the canals and bridges, it becomes a bit of a faff to get into the main areas. If visiting Amsterdam again, we’d probably pay extra to stay closer to the centre. Finally, the third bed in our room wasn’t comfortable for our 7-year-old, so he ended up sleeping with us instead. Overall: An average stay — nothing bad enough to complain about, but nothing good enough to make us want to return either.
Hotel was ok. Not the most convenient location. Not sure why the hotel restaurant required reservations, so we did room service instead. Was ok
Had lunch in bar very poor service, tried restaurant at dinner waited 15 minutes for glass of water dinner took about 45 minutes this is after waiter asked if we had gotten our order, no plates on table would be a clue. Worst service every pasta dish was so salty it was inedible we did get compensated for that .would not eat there agin room s are nice great view food not so much.
Nice and clean. Great breakfast and service. Only 10minutes walk from central station or 1 stop on tram. Great river view
Hotels have a core business of providing lodging for guests. The most important component of providing lodging is for sleep. If you can’t sleep well your health and demeanour are compromised. Movenpick is a beautiful hotel with lots of amenities, amazing views and lovely staff - all polite and helpful. But the hotel let us down by providing a room that was too hot for comfortable sleep. We slept with just a sheet, but it was stuffy and uncomfortable. The thermostat had no effect; the cooling light never stayed on. We made several representations to reception and was met with multiple responses – “ I will send maintenance to check”. They claimed the window was open stopping the cooling (it wasn’t and then it was, out of desperation to get some relief). The next day – “will ask for the temperature to be lowered in our room, that, never happened. The next day – “we are in transient phase between autumn and winter and no cooling air will be provided”. This last explanation seems the most plausible. The temperature in the lobby and restaurants were fine. It was noticeably cooler than our room. So, it seems Movenpick value saving some electricity dollars over allowing cooling for guest’s comfort. If the windows opened wider to allow the autumn breeze in, this would be OK, but they only open a little and are ineffective. Can’t recommend this hotel. We paid top dollar for our room and breakfast and were treated poorly.
