We were in room 705 next to a “VIP” lift which should only operate between 6am and 10pm. The lift was very noisy. On the first night it stopped at 10:10 which was ok. On the second night it was still going up and down at 11pm. We phoned down and complained and it finally stopped at 11:30. Then it was used again at 1:30 which woke us up and then started at 5:15 which woke us up again. We complained at checkout and they apologised and promised the manager would get in touch. No response. We emailed the hotel twice and the manager directly once - no response. Our travel agent tried to contact them - no response. So, if you do decide to stay and you are offered a room next to the "VIP" lift do not accept and demand a different room.
I've stayed at the Movenpick hotel twice now. The first time was great, but this time, my stay was truly outstanding. Yes, the rooms and amenities are all top notch, but what really sets this hotel apart is the staff. From the minute I checked in, I felt welcomed and at ease. The staff member who checked me in at reception was warm and friendly, answering all my questions clearly, and welcoming me back when I told him I had stayed here before. Later that evening, I misplaced my phone charger, and I went down to reception to ask if they had a spare charger - they didn't, but the lady offered to charge my phone using one of their USB-C cables at the front desk, which was a lifesaver as I had an event that evening. I was incredibly grateful to her for going above and beyond. I had dinner at the restaurant with my friends, and we were in a bit of a rush to attend the event, so I asked the person at the bar about wait times and if the kitchen could accommodate us, which they did. Our food came out swiftly and tasted phenomenal. Our waiter happily helped us take a group photo - quite a few photos, in fact, and they looked great! I almost never have dinner at hotel restaurants, but just from how good the meal and service were, I came back myself the next night to enjoy yet another amazing meal (with Movenpick's signature ice-cream dessert). On my last day, I was out in Wellington's CBD when my airport shuttle arrived early. I was understandably a bit frazzled and rushed to get back, and when I did, the same two reception team members had my luggage on standby and ready for me. These small gestures truly made my stay outstanding. You can tell that the entire Movenpick team genuinely cares about their guests, and take immense pride in the service they provide. I cannot recommend them highly enough. My only regret is that I didn't get their names so I could mention them personally in this review. Regardless, I hope they get the chance to read this, and know that in the future, for every trip I make to Wellington, I will always prioritize going back to the Movenpick Hotel. Thank you, Movenpick team!
A great hotel, situated a few minutes from the city centre . The staff are all very helpful and friendly. The room was well equipped, clean and if a good size. There’s a happy hour each afternoon which coincides with free chocolate and cakes for residents. My only minor issue is that the bar will not accept cash, this puke t normally be an issue, but in Nee Zealand it’s quite normal for a small percentage to be added each time a card (whether credit or debit) is used; as such you have to pay a little more . The option of cash would make it more reasonable
Right from the welcome from Kate in reception to the team in the restaurant we were made to feel welcome and special. Our room had fantastic views of the city, was warm, spacious and comfortable - couldn’t ask for more.
Had a very comfortable stay here with two excellent evening meals. The chocolate hour was a very nice gesture. The staff were very friendly and car was parked for us. It cost about 30 dollars per night. Having seen the reviews we asked for a room away from the goods lift and, although we could hear a lift or something in the distance, it wasn’t really a problem.
